The Shekinah Ministry was established on May 10, 1995 in Gretna, VA by Shantae Y. Younger. Although Shantae was brought up in the church, he saw a need for a more effective evangelism in his community. Shantae stepped out on his God-given vision of Shekinah Ministry with Sis. Pricilla and her family. The ministry team initially evangelized to different homes, trailer parks, and nursing homes spreading the "good news." Later, a gospel group called "Shekinah" was formed from the union of saints. God truly manifested himself through this ministry, resulting in many souls being saved and delivered.
In 1996 , Shekinah Ministry was reorganized and renamed "Shekinah Outreach Ministries of Evangelism" (S.O.M.E). In 1997, Shekinah began to hold meetings in the Younger's building in Gretna. There, the members organized after-school tutorials, bible studies, a praise dance ministry, and more. Later the ministry moved and continued steadfast at the Elba Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. B.I. Baize . In 1998, the Gretna Youth Gospel Choir was established as part of the S.O.M.E programs.
The ministries, such as the praise dance and the gospel choir, began to grow . The different ministries fellowshiped to produce different functions such as gospel concerts, conventions, school programs, church services in local parks, and other events. In 1998, Shantae moved to Martinsville, VA to be closer to his church "'Reach Out Apostolic Tabernacle" and founder and pastor Bis. Lorenzo Hall. Soon, Martinsville was added as a branch of Shekinah. All the branches of Shekinah came together to form the "Shekinah Choir" or "S.O.M.E Choir". On August 28th, 2002, the organization became incorporated. Now, with branches on the campus of North Carolina A & T State University, Danville, Altavista, and Gretna, Va, and delegates in South Carolina Shekinah Outreach Ministries of Evangelism, Inc. continues to grow to bring unity among God's people along the east coast.
